19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hardcourt
A comeback Medvedev claimed his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging year, achieving just one win at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in specific - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term trainer his previous coach.
Presently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.
It is Medvedev's first championship after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of that year.
The win also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at 21 various competitions.
"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children together, so to secure a championship is particularly special," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament earlier this year.
His counter-punching strategy and frequent outbursts on court had led commentators to question if his ability to play at the elite level was concluded.
However the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.
The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the final five points to gain the advantage.
The pair swapped service breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his first professional title, took control to create a decider.
He defended 4 early chances in a close third set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to close out the victory.
Fittingly, Medvedev secured the win with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
